Washington first in state to give everyone MacBooks

Three classrooms full of Washington sixth-graders received laptops Monday morning — each from a dignitary from Kenosha Unified, local government, the state Department of Education, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside or Apple Inc. — making Washington the first public school in the state to outfit each of its students with a portable computer.“I couldn’t think of a better school,” said Superintendent Scott Pierce, who pointed to Principal Beth Sabo’s dogged commitment to keeping Washington near the cutting edge of educational technology as the driving force behind what is now known as Washington’s 1:1 program — the ratio of laptops to kids.

Very cool, but too bad they aren't brand new Windows Vista laptops. :P

As much as we all paid for college we should have just received laptops when we entered school. Making it apart of tuition.

It would make more sense to spend the money on cheaper machines running linux, or maybe, you know, pay the teachers equitable salaries.
